COVID-19 Digital Support

COVID-19 is changing the landscape for all of us. And while the challenges of each business are unique, we are all being impacted in some way – whether that is through shop closures, changes in customer demand, supply chain issues or logistics.

Our thoughts are with you as this outbreak continues to affect our communities and impact all aspects of our lives. Google is taking many admirable initiatives to help communities globally and recently announced an $800+ million (USD) commitment to support COVID-19 response efforts. This commitment includes Google Ads credits to help alleviate some of the challenges and costs small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are facing.

As you look for ways to connect and stay in touch with your customers, here are 4 insights that might help you navigate these challenging times:

Stay informed. Tools like Google Trends can help you better understand the impact of fluctuations in consumer demand and the needs of your customers, particularly in the context of your local market. That, in turn, along with a few guiding questions can help you adapt your marketing campaigns to this dynamic market.

Stay current. Your customers are looking for information and trust your company to deliver. If your hours of operation have changed for example, update your customer facing sites. We also recommend adjusting your messaging to share information about any extra precautions that you’re taking, if you’re providing any extra services to the community or whether you’re experiencing delays.

Adjust in real time. As consumer behaviour shifts, you should review your ads and actively manage budgets, as well as pause campaigns or reallocate budgets based on product availability and consumer demand. Within Google Ads, we recommend updating the creative assets that you manage to represent any changes in offerings.

Stay connected to your customers and employees. As you transition to running your business remotely, you can use digital tools to help maintain a strong connection with your customers and employees. For your customers, that might mean scheduling digital appointments, hosting consultations or tutorials via Hangouts Meet or product demonstrations via YouTube videos. For your employees, enable greater collaboration with shared documents or create a chat room to facilitate timely communication. To ensure that businesses of all sizes have the ability to stay connected, Google have rolled out free access to their advanced Hangouts Meet video-conferencing capabilities to all G Suite customers globally until 1 July 2020.

How do you know if you are eligible?

The ad credits will be available to small and medium businesses, who have advertised directly on the Google Ads platform or through Google partners, around the world with active accounts since the beginning of 2019.

Credits will be provided to SMB advertisers that have been active advertisers since Jan 1, 2019 and comply with all Google Ads T&Cs.
